Explanation
とあって is a formal expression created by combining the particle と with the て-form of the verb ある (to be). It is used to indicate a special reason or circumstance, which naturally leads to an expected outcome or result. It can be translated as 'given that (A), it's only natural that (B)', or 'precisely because (A), (B)'.
とあって connects to the plain form of verbs and い-adjectives, as well as to nouns. However, when used with な-adjectives, だ must be placed before とあって.
- 有名人が来るとあって、空港はカメラを持った人でいっぱいです。Given that a celebrity is arriving, the airport is full of people with cameras.
- あのレストランは新しくておいしいとあって、いつも行列ができています。Because that new restaurant is so delicious, there's always a long line.
- このあたりは静かだとあって、子育て世代に人気がある。As this area is so quiet, it's popular among families with children.
- デパートのセール初日とあって、どのフロアも大勢の客で混雑している。Since it's the first day of the department store's sale, every floor is crowded with a lot of customers.
You can think of this grammar point as being similar to として ('as'), but with a key difference. とあって places emphasis on the state of being (highlighted by ある), while として focuses more on the capacity or role in which an action is performed (highlighted by する).
Caution
とあって is used to state an objective reason and is not used for personal, subjective justifications made by the speaker.
