Explanation
にしたところで and としたところで are expressions used to present a hypothetical condition (A), while emphasizing that the outcome (B) will be the same regardless. These patterns typically convey that one's efforts would be futile, or that choosing (A) over any other option would not lead to a different result. Common English equivalents are 'even if (A),' or 'even for (A)'.
This grammar is formed by combining the particles に or と with した (the past tense of する), the noun ところ (to signify a situation), and the particle で. It attaches to nouns and noun phrases.
- 専門家にしたところで、すべての質問に答えられるわけではない。Even an expert can't answer every single question.
- 最新のスマートフォンにしたところで、電池がなければただの箱だ。Even the latest smartphone is just a box if the battery is dead.

In informal conversation, たところで is often substituted with たって, making the expression more casual.
