まじき
Unbecoming of, Unworthy of, Not proper for, Should not, Must not, Cannot
Structure
許すまじき + Noun
(1)としてある
Explanation
まじき is a form used to modify nouns that comes from まじ, an older grammatical form. In contemporary Japanese, the role of まじ has largely been taken over by まい, which means 'must not' or 'should not'. まじ shares this meaning of prohibition and typically appears in a handful of set, formal phrases. Despite subtle differences in nuance, まじき is most frequently rendered in English as 'unbecoming of (A)' or 'not proper for (A)'.
The most frequently encountered structure using まじき is (A) にあるまじき (B). This pattern begins with a noun indicating a role or position, followed by the particle に, the verb ある, and then まじき, which modifies a final noun.
- 賄賂を受け取るなんて、裁判官にあるまじき行為だ。Accepting a bribe is an act unbecoming of a judge.
- 育児放棄は親にあるまじき行動であり、社会問題になっている。Child neglect is behavior unbecoming of a parent and has become a social issue.
In some cases, the particle として, meaning 'as', may be used instead of に, while the remainder of the grammatical structure is unchanged.

Another common set phrase is 許すまじき, which means 'must not be forgiven' and is often translated simply as 'unforgivable'.
