未だに + … + Verb［ない］
Explanation
Although it uses the same kanji, まだ 'still' is almost always written as 未だ 'still' when in its kanji form. Just like まだ, when 未だ is combined with に, it expresses that something is 'still (A)' or 'not yet (A)', determined by whether the accompanying verb is affirmative or negative.
Because 未だに functions as an adverb, it is typically placed at the beginning of a clause or sentence.
- ストリーミングサービスが主流の今でも、祖父は未だにカセットテープで音楽を聴いている。Even though streaming services are the mainstream now, my grandfather still listens to music on cassette tapes.
- 大人になった今でも、未だにサンタクロースの存在を信じている。Even after becoming an adult, I still believe that Santa Claus exists.
- バグを報告してから一週間が経ったが、その問題は未だに解決されていない。A week has passed since I reported the bug, but the problem still hasn't been fixed.
- １０年前のあの不思議な事件の原因は、未だに明らかになっていない。The cause of that strange incident from 10 years ago has still not been revealed.
When compared to まだ, 未だに carries a more formal tone and often emphasizes that a state has continued for a surprisingly long time. This adds a nuance similar to including ずっと in a regular sentence.
