Explanation
The grammar pattern から見ると is used to express a viewpoint from the standpoint of (A), or to state a conclusion drawn from objectively observing (A). It can be translated as 'from (A)'s perspective, (B)' or 'judging from (A), it seems that (B)'.
This structure is formed by combining the particle から ('from') with the verb 見る ('to see/look'). It is often followed by various conditional forms such as と, たら, ば, or the て-form. This grammar point is always used after a noun.
- 先生から見ると、どの生徒も可愛い。From a teacher's point of view, every student is dear.
- 専門家からみたら、この絵は価値がないだろう。From an expert's perspective, this painting is probably worthless.
- 私から見れば、彼の考えはあまり良くない。The way I see it, his idea isn't very good.
- 彼の表情から見て、彼は怒っているに違いない。Judging from his expression, he must be angry.
Caution
Because it is based on the verb 見る ('to see'), から見ると is typically avoided when making judgments based on non-visual information, such as sounds or smells.
- この匂いから見ると、牛乳は腐っている。Judging from this smell, the milk has gone bad. (Unnatural Japanese)
