Structure
Explanation
をこめて, which is also written with kanji as を込めて, is an expression used to say that an action is performed 'with' a particular feeling, or by 'pouring (A)' into something. This grammar point is formed using the particle を and the て-form of the verb 込める, meaning 'to put into' or 'to include'. As such, the literal sense of 'putting (a feeling) into (an action)' is very close to its actual usage.
をこめて is always placed immediately after a noun that describes the specific emotion or sentiment being conveyed.
- 平和への願いを込めて、千羽鶴を折った。With a prayer for peace, I folded a thousand paper cranes.
- 母はいつも愛情を込めて、おいしいお弁当を作ってくれる。My mother always lovingly prepares delicious packed lunches for me.
- お世話になった先輩に、感謝を込めてプレゼントを渡した。I gave a present filled with gratitude to the senior who has looked after me.
Caution
It is important to remember that this grammar pattern is used like a set expression. It will almost always be used when the noun being 'put into' the action is an abstract feeling or emotion.
