からこそ
Emphasized because, Precisely because
Structure
Noun + だ + からこそ + Phrase
Explanation
The adverbial particle こそ serves to place special emphasis on the noun or phrase it is attached to. When it is used together with the conjunction particle から, it works to strongly highlight the 'reason' for an outcome. This grammar pattern is equivalent to the English phrase 'it is precisely because (A) that (B)'.
からこそ is an expression that most often follows verbs or nouns. When used with a noun, the auxiliary verb だ is required between the noun and からこそ.
- 毎日練習したからこそ、上手になったんだよ。才能があるからだけじゃないよ。I got this good precisely because I practiced every day. It's not just because I have talent.
- 友達がいつもそばにいてくれたからこそ、私はつらいことも乗り越えられたのです。I was able to overcome the tough times specifically because my friends were always by my side.
- 家族だからこそ許せるんだよ。他人だったらぜったいに無理だ。I can forgive you only because you're family. If it were anyone else, it'd be impossible.
- この町は静かだからこそ、心が落ち着いて生活ができるんですよ。You can live a calm and peaceful life here precisely because this town is so quiet.
With からこそ, the speaker is singling out one particular reason as the most important one, even if other contributing factors might exist. こそ emphasizes that this single reason is the one that truly matters above all else.
- 先生が親身になって相談に乗ってくれたからこそ、進路について決心したり、前に進むことができたんです。I was able to decide on my future path and move forward, all thanks to the fact that you, sensei, took the time to listen and give me such heartfelt advice.
