Explanation
The expression と同じくらい is formed by joining the case marking particle と, the noun 同じ ('the same'), and the adverbial particle くらい. It is used to express that something is 'at about the same level as (A)'.
To use this grammar, place と同じくらい directly after the noun that serves as the basis for comparison. The item being compared can appear later in the sentence or be connected immediately using the case marking particle の.
- この本は辞書と同じぐらい重い。This book is about as heavy as a dictionary.
- 今日は昨日と同じぐらい暑いですね。It's about as hot today as it was yesterday, isn't it?
- わたしのカバンはあなたのカバンと同じぐらいの値段だった。My bag was about the same price as yours.
- この机と同じぐらいの高さの椅子を探しています。I'm looking for a chair that's about the same height as this desk.
When you want to state that something is done 'in a very similar way' to (A), the particle に can be used in place of の after くらい.
- どっちの味も同じぐらいおいしいから、選べないよ。Both flavors are about equally delicious, so I can't choose.
- 妹は兄と同じぐらいに絵が上手に描ける。My little sister can draw about as skillfully as my older brother.
