と言う理由で
For (that) reason; on the grounds of (that), With the reasoning, Under the pretext of, Due to
Structure
(Reason)。 そういう理由で + Phrase
Explanation
The phrase という理由で is employed when presenting the specific grounds (A) for a particular outcome. This justification (A) can be anything from a simple fact to a personal viewpoint. By framing the preceding clause with という, this expression highlights that clause as the explicit 'reason', making it a focal point. This function is often similar to the English phrase 'on the grounds that'.
The case marking particle で, which follows 理由, indicates that the outcome (B) occurs 'due to' or 'as a result of' that specific reason.
- このカフェは静かでゆっくり本が読めるという理由で学生に人気がある。This café is popular among students on the grounds that it's quiet and they can read books at a leisurely pace.
- 危険だという理由で、そのイベントには参加しなかった。On the grounds that it was dangerous, I didn't participate in the event.
Fun Fact
In nearly every situation, という理由で can be substituted with というわけで. The opposite, however, does not hold true.

- という理由で、明日の試合は中止とします。For that reason, we are calling off tomorrow's game. (Unnatural)
- というわけで、明日の試合は中止とします。So, with that said, we are calling off tomorrow's game. (Natural)
The reason わけ can often replace 理由 is that わけ is an alternative reading for the kanji in 理由. Conversely, 理由 cannot always replace わけ (particularly at the start of a sentence), and the more common kanji for 訳 is never read as りゆう.
