Explanation

When the て-form is followed by よかった (the past form of the い-Adjective いい), it creates the pattern てよかった. This structure expresses a feeling of relief or happiness that something happened. The negative forms, なくてよかった and ないでよかった, mean 'I'm glad that (A) didn't happen' or 'It's a good thing I didn't do (A)'.

Regarding the difference between なくてよかった and ないでよかった, the main point is conversational frequency. ないでよかった is used much more often in spoken Japanese. Conversely, なくてよかった appears more in written language, such as in novels, and may sound slightly more formal or even old-fashioned in speech.
