Explanation
To make an い-Adjective past and negative, you must first change it to its く-form. This is done by dropping the final い and adding く. Following this, you can add either なかった for the plain form, or ありませんでした for the polite form.
- その映画は、怖くなかったよ！That movie wasn't scary!
- 試験は、難しくありませんでした。The exam was not difficult.
The polite past-negative form is built using the う - Verb ある. While this is technically the formal method for all conjugations that use the く-form of an い-Adjective, it's not strictly required in everyday conversation. The semi-polite alternative is frequently used instead.
To create the semi-polite form, you simply take the plain form なかった and attach です to the end.
- この本は、面白くなかったです。This book was not interesting.
